Why do I need an account?
Any completely open web or portal site, we have found, is subject to invasion by solicitors and opportunists. We required accounts so that users have some reasonable expectation that the people they work with in the sites are there for a common purpose. Accounts also allow us to let users determine what information they want to share completely, what they want to keep private, and what they want to keep somewhere in between. We provide users public sites, where all users can contributes; member sites that are access controlled but can be joined, and private sites that are not visible to non-members.
What capabilities are in HARMONIEWeb?
HARMONIEWeb is currently built on a MOSS 2007 platform. This provides users with a logical site creation scheme, and numerous out of the box and specialized web parts to manage information and users. We have also added a Live Communication Server to provide web based instant messenger services within the environment. There is also access to web based Adobe Connect desk top Voice/Video connectivity. The idea here is that interest or functional groups can be created and found, focusing the information, and more importantly people involved with that subject in a single location, and the ability to see and communicate with the people you need to talk to. We have tried to make the site as mobile as possible by implementing applications that don't require downloads. However, we can not account for the configuration of every user’s computer. There may be instances where plug ins are required. We also offer a limited number of harmonieweb.org web based email accounts.
How is HARMONIEWeb secured?
HARMONIEWeb uses 128 bit Secure Socket Layer encryption. On top of that we have added an Internet Security and Acceleration server (ISA). We have activated all security features on the Active Directory server that are available. We have also turned on all the security features of the Sharepoint server. Added to this, the HARMONIEWeb servers exist in a DMZ, with the back end SQL server that stores all user and list information behind an additional firewall to keep the data secure.
